I have two fins,
I have a twisted tail,
I have a long spike on my back and
I can camouflage myself,

Wacky Wednesday

We made some grass head people. We drew a body for a yoghurt container. We put some grass seed into the end of some panty hose. Then we put in some saw dust and tied the ends. Some of us twisted noses and ears. Next we soaked it in water and put it in the yoghurt container. Our creatures are going to grow spiky green hair!

We are following on a map all the places that Mrs Higgs is going. We call it "Where in the World is Mrs Higgs". She is in London at the moment.

Our birthday boy Felix did some great writing today about spring.

There is a Disco in the KBS hall tomorrow night at 5.30pm for years 1-4. This is run by the KBS PTA.

We read the poem 'Michael Apple-seed' this week, related to our Inquiry learning.
We then wrote some poetry about apples. Here are some of the children's poems.

An apple is...

crunchy like a biscuit
red like a strawberry
round like a circle
shiny like a star

Marvelous Monday

This morning we went to Studio 2 and Lesley Ottey came to talk to us about gardening. We are going to make our own garden. We need some tools, some plants/seeds etc but most of all we need some dirt/soil first!
She showed us an earthworm and told us that we should not pick up a worm with our hands because our hands are too warm and will hurt it. Mica and James found some worms at lunch and used a leaf  and a stick to transfer them into our garden.

We are on Whanau Time on Wednesday. We chose our presenters and our songs. We are also going to do a wee performance.

Our very own Amber is in today's newsletter. She did some creative writing and you can read it in there.

Wonderful Wednesday

We had an Olympics celebration this morning. Here are our thoughts about it.

Ariki loved the people performing, like Mitchell and Finn, because they were very good.

It was wonderful to see so many children dressed in the Tongan colours. It was lovely to have Joshua T's nana join us.

More Descriptive Writing

We have been writing descriptions in Studio One. We read 'The Great White Man Eating Shark' by Margaret Mahy. We wrote descriptions of the main character Norvin. Here's what some children wrote.

Norvin The Man Eating Shark

Norvin pretends to be a great white man eating shark. Norvin wants to have the beautiful beach to himself. He has shark teeth, blue eyes, blond spiky hair, a shark pointy head and a grey dorsal fin. He has rose white skin and he's fat. Norvin tries to scare people with the grey dorsal fin and the people think he is a great white man eating shark. Norvin is a trouble maker because he doesn't let anyone in the blue water.

By Amber

Norvin The Shark

Norvin is really, really mean. He is pretending to be a shark. Norvin has a dorsal fin and his hair is golden. He likes the beach to himself. He scares everyone away. Norvin is mean to people.

The Water Cycle

We have been writing about the water cycle as part of our inquiry about water. Here are some of the children's ideas about how the water cycle works.

We have learnt about water, so we have made a water cycle. The water is in the clouds. It gets too heavy then it falls down as rain. It is on the plants and the grass and roofs. Next the rain evaporates because of the sun.
By Zoe

We have been learning about the water cycle. First the clouds make the water. Then the rain comes and goes into the soil and helps the environment. Next the water evaporates back to the sun.
By Amber

Joshua T wrote about going to a Crusaders' rugby game. Here is what he wrote.

We went to the rugby. The Crusaders won. I saw Richie McCaw number seven.

Today we made seagulls by smudging pastels and  James and Tahlia painted a giant peach. We are reading James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. Eligh and Jazmin went up a reading level todayl! Well done you two! We wrote about what water feels like, smells like, tastes like, looks like and sounds like. We will post some of our stories soon.
From Studio 1
Yesterday at Whanau Time Studio 1 sang Le Aute to the whole school and to some of our parents. It is a Samoan welcome song. We did some actions too. Some of us felt shy but we were all proud of ourselves.
